The video is a roundtable discussion organized by the Institute for China-Europe Studies
(ICES) at Brussels on Nov.20, 2024.
The topic of the roundtable was the impact of the US elections toward Europe-China relations.
The discussion was moderated by Mr. Yang Li, Executive Director of the ICES.
The speakers were from Europe, China and the United States, making the event a tripartite
dialogue from the perspectives of all the three sides. They are:
Mr. Sourabh Gupta, senior fellow of the Institute for China-America Studies (ICAS) from Washington
DC, who was. He is a policy specialist on Asia-Pacific international relations with two decades
of Washington, D.C.-based experience.
Mr. Jan Willem Blankert, a senior follow at EU-Asia Analysis and a former diplomat at the European
Commission, including as the coordinator for EU-China relations, who has very rich experiences
on Asia and China-related affairs from the European side.
Mr. Cui Hongjian, currently a professor of Beijing Foreign Studies University and the Director
of its Center for the EU and Regional Development Studies. He is one of the leading experts in
China on China-EU relations. He was visiting Brussels from Beijing at the time. The first question
went to Mr. Gupta: From the elections result and the cabinet members picked up so far, how do you
read second Trump administration’s foreign policies, particularly toward Europe and China? How
will they be different from his first term? Will the US adopt its foreign polices all through “China
prism” as many commentators suggested? What are its implications for Europe-China relationship?
