What Does ICES Do ?

The ICES is a Brussels-based think tank seeking to foster better mutual understanding between China and Europe by supporting academic research in a broad range of fields including but not limited to business & trade, international law, ocean management and global governance.

Initiated by the Hainan Free Trade Port Research Foundation, the ICES also aims to increase knowledge-sharing avenues between China and Europe with a focus on the development of free trade ports in general, and on the Hainan Free Trade Port and the development of Hainan Island into a pilot zone of ecological conservation in particular.

To achieve its objectives, the ICES will organise academic events and exhibitions, publish research papers and reports, as well as support academic exchanges, so as to promote the free flow of ideas and people between Europe and China.
