Alec CARUANA

Non-resident Research Associate

Alec CARUANA is a non-resident research associate at ICES. His research interests lie in unpacking maritime disputes from historical, legal, economic, and security perspectives, as well as analyzing the foreign policy behaviour of smaller states in the Indo-Pacific region amid increasing great power tensions. He holds master's degrees in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Peking University, where he specialized in borderlands history, American foreign policy, and China's involvement in the Global South. Drawing on successive experience in think tanks and NGOs across the U.S., UK, EU, and Indo-Pacific, he brings an interregional and policy-grounded perspective to ICES' engagement with the evolving dynamics of EU-China relations.
