ICES is a Brussels-based think tank seeking to foster better mutual understanding
between China and Europe by supporting academic research in a broad range of fields,
including but not limited to maritime affairs and ocean management, business and trade,
international law, and global governance.
Initiated by the Hainan Free Trade Port Research Foundation, ICES also aims to increase
knowledge-sharing avenues between China and Europe, with a focus on the development of
free trade ports in general, and on the Hainan Free Trade Port and the development of
Hainan Island into a pilot zone for ecological conservation in particular.
To achieve its objectives, ICES organises academic events and conferences, publishes
research papers and reports, and supports academic exchanges, so as to promote the free
flow of ideas and people between Europe and China.
On the morning of July 17, the Institute for China-Europe Studies (ICES) hosted a breakfast roundtable on 50 years of EU-China relations. A small, selected group of colleagues came together for an in-depth discussion on some of today’s most pressing issues in the EU-China relations.
As part of the Institute for China-Europe Studies’ (ICES) new dialogue series, titled ICES Dialogues: 50 Years of EU-China Relations, ICES hosted a webinar on the evening of June 26, 2025, to explore the role of the EU and China in the current international security landscape.
